Dear Brothers,
UToledo hosted Songfest on April 1st, a charity event featuring singing and dancing performances, with all proceeds benefiting Bethany House. This organization offers a secure haven, advocacy, and other services to survivors of domestic violence and their children. The theme for this year’s Songfest was songs from various decades.
Among the participating IFC chapters, SigEp competed in the Men’s division with around 30 members dedicating countless hours each week to practice lyrics, notes, and dance moves. Their goal was to put on an outstanding show for the community.
During the event, all the SigEps performed exceptionally well on stage, earning them a 2nd place win in the Men’s division. In addition, they secured first place in Penny Wars, a fundraising event leading up to Songfest, where they raised a remarkable $1881, outperforming all other competitors by a significant margin.
A special shoutout goes to Carter Rodriguez, Greg Shulkosky, and Peyton Elliot for being the Songfest Directors, and investing numerous hours before and after rehearsals. Furthermore, recognition goes to Michael Martin for playing the piano and directing and Collin Mischak for playing the drums.
At Songfest 3, our Brothers, Tarak Davuluri, Sean Hanna, and Rudy Dua, were selected to join the ARX chapter of the Blue Key National Honor Society, consisting of 13 of the top leaders on campus! Furthermore, 3 of our brothers Gavin Pokersnik, Amol Koli, and Tarak Davuluri were inducted into the Mortar Board National Honor Society, which recognizes 28 of the top student leaders on campus.
“Songfest will always be a special event for UToledo, but this year, it was a special event for SigEp. From having three of our members (all participants of Songfest) get into Blue Key, our routine place 2nd for the men’s divisions, and all of our members in Mortar Board representing, our chapter brought the energy! I cannot express how proud and grateful I am to not only be a part of this amazing group of singers and dancers but to help direct them too!” – Carter Rodriguez (SongFest Director)
