Dear Brothers,
This previous semester has been one of great successes for the brothers of Ohio Iota. Beginning with our largest formal recruitment class since before the pandemic with 34 new members, we grew to become the largest fraternity on campus. This class of new members very quickly became highly involved in the chapter and is largely responsible for helping us improve performance at many competitions, service events, and in our culture as a chapter. This class proves that you can truly have both quality and quantity with the right recruitment methods.
Not long after our official recruitment week was the homecoming day parade in which our float, in partnership with the sisters of Pi Beta Phi, was to be judged and paraded around the streets of Old Orchard. Taking into account the theme “Heroes vs. Villains” we painstakingly pomped chicken wire designs for many hours in the week leading up to the event. With our final touches being added mere hours before the event by a sturdy crew of all-nighters we took to the streets and earned our 1st place prize as the victors of this year’s homecoming parade.
At the UToledo Avengers Assemble Charity Softball Tournament, our brothers stepped up to the plate as they competed with other organizations to donate to a charity of their choosing. In the end our brothers once again took 1st prize and were able to donate $250 to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio.
Shortly after this was the Wrap-Up Toledo event where we competed to build the best blanket fort to raise money for charity seeking to supply blankets to those in need. Thanks to a large showout, plenty of pvc and duct tape, as well as a few hours to tinker our blanket fort was ready. Once again the judges deemed us 1st prize worthy and we took home the gold.
To add one more victory onto this long list of achievements for the month of October we took 1st place in the fraternity intramural flag football tournament. After hours of rushes, passes, and touchdowns we once again came out on top. Proving yet again that balanced men can mix strategy with strength to take the day every time.
Other successful events this semester included the SigEp Sliders fundraiser on November 2nd, pond restoration at the Stranahan Arboretum, service events at Cherry Street Mission, and service events with Bridge among others.
Several individual members in our chapter also took initiative this semester and became highly involved around campus and in their academics. We continue to maintain the highest IFC GPA on campus and have brothers in several prestigious organizations such as Blue Key, Order of Omega, and Mortar Board. We also had brothers come into several key leadership positions for organizations such as the Inter-Fraternity Council, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and others.
This has been a very successful semester for the brothers in SigEp Ohio Iota. Through our shared values and brotherhood we greatly increased our numbers, contributed to local charity organizations, dominated Greek life competitions, maintained our academic and prestigious standing on campus, and made lifelong bonds between our brothers. Together we have set the groundwork for an even more successful spring semester and hope to continue this positive growth!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
